How pixelate.video protects your footage
People use pixelate.video to hide faces, licence plates, addresses and other private details. It would make little sense to blur that material on someone else's server, so the whole job runs on your own device.
Where the blurring happens
The video you open is decoded, masked and re-encoded by your browser. The boxes you draw, their timings and the pixelation or blur strength never leave your device, and neither does the original clip or the censored copy you download. We have no copy of your footage and no way to see it.
Data kept on your device
- Work in progress
- To survive a reload, the editor saves the open video, your regions and settings, and any completed render in IndexedDB for this site. Leftover render fragments expire after seven days.
- Recent videos
- Your last finished exports (up to 24) stay listed under Recent videos until you remove them or newer ones replace them.
- Settings
- Small preferences such as the colour theme are stored in local storage.
Clearing pixelate.video's site data in your browser removes all of the above.
Converter download for rare formats
If your browser can't read a file type, the page loads ffmpeg.wasm, an open-source converter, from the unpkg.com content network and converts the video locally. unpkg.com sees the request and therefore your IP address. The video itself is not transmitted.
Hosting provider
Pages are delivered by Cloudflare, which processes standard connection data (IP address, user agent, requested URL) in order to serve the site and defend it against attacks. That processing rests on our legitimate interest in running a secure service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Log retention: [TO COMPLETE: retention period].
Analytics without cookies
No cookies are set on pixelate.video, and there are no ads. We do measure traffic, in aggregate, with two cookieless tools: Cloudflare Web Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics. They tell us how many visits each page gets, which site referred them, the rough country and the browser or device type. Neither tool stores anything in your browser, builds a profile of you or follows you to other sites, and neither ever receives the footage you blur. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which pages help people (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
With nothing stored on your device, there is no consent banner to click through. Personal data is never sold or shared, so a Global Privacy Control signal is honoured automatically.
Contact and responsibility

Exercising your rights
Under GDPR, UK GDPR and similar laws you may ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, limit or object to how it is used, receive a portable copy, or complain to your regulator. Footage and project data exist only in your browser, so deleting the site's data there removes them completely.
If this policy changes
We will update this page and its date before any change in how data is handled.
